The Tovala Smart Oven Pro retails for $350. But order Tovala’s meal service six times, and the price drops to $119. That’s a $231 swing, and it completely changes how you should think about this oven. At $119, it’s an intriguing buy. At $350, it’s swimming in very competitive waters.
I’ve tested dozens of air fryer toaster ovens using the same standardized 100-point rubric, cooking frozen fries, frozen pizza, and whole roast chicken, and putting them through a two-hour temperature-variance test. The Tovala Smart Oven Pro scored 79/100, putting it firmly in Recommended territory. The best I’ve ever tested scored an 88.
Where it shines
The roast chicken was genuinely impressive: evenly cooked, juicy, and delicious. A frozen pizza was ready in nine minutes flat, which is faster than most delivery drivers have ever found your address. Preheating is quick, and the temperature averaged a nearly perfect 350.6° when set to 350°. The removable crumb tray makes cleanup painless, and, when it works, the Tovala app’s barcode scanning is a legitimately clever feature that auto-programs cook settings for compatible products.
The steam function is also worth calling out. Very few air fryer toaster ovens offer steam cooking, and the Tovala Pro pulls it off without making a fuss.
Where it stumbles
Frozen fries were a disappointment: 20 minutes to cook (nearly double the average), and they came out uneven. The pizza, despite its speed, also cooked unevenly enough that you’ll want to rotate it halfway through. And one quirk worth knowing: There’s no traditional bake mode. Every bake function uses convection, which works fine most of the time, but could throw off certain recipes.
Bottom line
The Tovala Smart Oven Pro is a genuinely good air fryer toaster oven with a smart ecosystem built around it. If you’re already interested in Tovala’s meal service, the $119 price makes this an easy recommendation. If you’re shopping for a standalone air fryer oven at $350, the competition deserves a serious look first.
