I’ve tested over 100 mattresses in my career as a product journalist. The Tuft & Needle Kin 10″ Foam Mattress is the worst one I’ve ever slept on.

That’s not hyperbole. With a final score of 47/100, the Amazon-exclusive Kin represents a new low in my testing and a cautionary tale about what happens when “accessible pricing” is the top priority.

What Tuft & Needle Claims

The Kin promises a lot, including T&N Adaptive foam for breathability and bounce-back support, a gel-infused transition layer for cooling, and CertiPUR-US certified materials. It’s marketed as “ideal for all,” from kids and guests to your master bedroom. At roughly $550 for a queen, the price is genuinely accessible.

But accessible to what? Disappointment, mostly.

Where It Falls Apart

Let’s start with sleep quality, where the Kin scored a remarkable zero out of 15 points. That’s not a typo. The pressure relief is minimal (3/10), and the support is mediocre at best (5/10). If you’re a side sleeper, your shoulders and hips will remind you of this mattress’s shortcomings every morning.

Edge support is practically nonexistent (2/8). Sit on the side of this bed, and you’ll feel like you’re about to toboggan onto the floor. For couples, this means the usable sleep surface shrinks considerably.

The bounce and ease of movement scored just 3/10. Repositioning at night feels like a workout.

What It Does Okay

The Kin handles motion isolation well (11/12). Your partner’s midnight bathroom trips won’t wake you. It’s also dead silent (5/5) and the materials feel reasonably durable for the price (8/13). The value score of 4/5 acknowledges that yes, you get what you pay for, though that’s not the compliment it sounds like.

The Bottom Line

The Tuft & Needle Kin is fiberglass-free and responsibly made. It won’t off-gas toxic chemicals into your bedroom. But it also won’t give most people a good night’s sleep.

If your budget is truly limited, I’d recommend considering the Nectar Classic or even a mid-range Zinus before settling on the Kin. This mattress earns its place in history as the only bed in my testing database that couldn’t crack 50 points.

Final Score: 47/100 — Not recommended.
